I'm not sure about why you don't act like yourself lol but I used to stop having nightmares by wearing myself out a lot during the day (exercising a lot mostly), it makes you so exhausted you don't dream.

Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
signifying nothing.
Because it's just a dream. Don't worry, I think nobody really acts like themselves when they are dreaming.
For exemple, I'd NEVER eat one of those speaking dolls. Believe me, listening to an annoying voice and realizing it comes from your belly is way beyond my behavior.
In rare case,I succesfully get a bit control of the dream, and try to make it good. But it's really rare. The fact you don't act like yourself when dreaming,is one of the point that dreams are interesting^^ I like when I do a weird dream,it's strange and funny^^ And,in fact, are _only_ a dream, and have no influence in your real life or your point of viewing things Don't worry and enjoy the natural... weird trips of men, even without drugs! XD
Dreams? Good Lahanna... You can't do much about them I'm afraid.
I don't have that many dreams, or at least only one or two a month that I can remember.
Mostly they come when you've had a boring day, not much excercise and you weren't very stimulated. They also arise when you've done something, or seen something, that really made an impact on you.
My tactic is this: do a normal day's work with as much activity as possible. Then do a bit of excercise (even a medium length walk is good), eat normally, and do something like watch TV, or browse the internet all evening.
Then go to bed with (and this is what I place my faith in) about fifteen to twenty Dream Catchers hung over your bed.
I don't know if it'll work for you, but it works for me ^^ These days I have to work hard to *get* dreams, so my problem's the other side of the coin FN

You can tune a piano, but you can't tuna fish.
